Morley Hosts Impressive St George’s Day Parade with Nearly 500 Scouts

Morley was filled with colour, pride, and community spirit as nearly 500 uniformed Scout members took part in this year’s St George’s Day parade. Young people from across the area marched together in a powerful display of unity, celebrating the values of Scouting and honouring England’s patron saint.

The parade brought together all sections of the Scout movement, from the youngest Squirrels and Beavers through to Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers. Spectators lined the streets to watch the procession, applauding the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the participants.

This year’s celebration was particularly special as it marked two significant milestones within the movement. Squirrels, the newest and youngest section for children aged 4–6, are celebrating their 5th anniversary, highlighting the continued growth and accessibility of Scouting for younger age groups. Meanwhile, Beavers, for children aged 6–8, are celebrating an incredible 40 years since their introduction—four decades of helping young people gain skills for life, build confidence, and make lasting friendships.

Leaders and volunteers expressed their pride in the turnout and the positive impact Scouting continues to have in the community. Events like the St George’s Day parade not only celebrate tradition but also showcase the opportunities available to young people through Scouting.

However, with growing numbers comes an increasing need for support. Local Scout groups are always looking for adult volunteers to help deliver activities, support events, and ensure that more young people can benefit from the programme. Volunteering offers a rewarding way to give back to the community, develop new skills, and make a real difference in young people’s lives.

The success of this year’s parade is a testament to the dedication of the young people, leaders, and volunteers who make Scouting in Morley such a vibrant and welcoming community.
